Rick Muzzy: Focus with Rick Muzzy

Brought up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame City Canton, Ohio Rick Muzzy is a second generation broadcaster.  He had a great broadcasting mentor in his father, who was the Dean of Ohio Sportscasters and Master of Ceremonies for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies for its first twenty-five years.  From an early age Rick would hang out at his father’s radio station after ball games and go through the music library searching for great hits like we play today on 97.9 WSPT FM.  That’s when he was first bitten by a medium that for many has turned out to be a faithful companion. After experience with Ohio radio in Elyria, suburban Dayton, Rick spent a brief stint in television working for one of the nation’s pioneer television broadcasters in Ohio, then returning to radio in the same city.  Rick next went east to New England to work for one of America’s most respected broadcast groups in Worcester and Boston and then on to Colorado Springs before settling down in Wisconsin. Rick started out in broadcasting as a DJ, and over the years experienced news, sales and management, before coming to Wisconsin to own his own broadcast group.  Rick is proud he is a broadcaster and a local owner who believes in boosting our local communities and enjoys today playing the greatest hits ever made by some of his favorite artists – Frankie Valli, Roy Orbison, Elvis, the Bee Gees and so many more.  Besides broadcasting Rick has a passion for the outdoors and is humbled by a sport he loves…they call it golf.

Scott Shannon: The True Oldies Channel

Most people think about a lot of things; sports, politics, religion - but Michael Scott Shannon lives and breathes only for radio... well alright, and some golf too. Scott Shannon , the Forrest Gump of radio, has stumbled into an amazing career.  As a broadcaster, programmer, and host of 97.9 WSPT's True Oldies Channel, his is truly an amazing success story. Today, Shannon also moonlights as the official voice of the Sean Hannity Show that is broadcasted on over 400 stations across America. Blessed with rugged bad looks, Scott has done his fair share of television work.  He was selected as one of the original VH1 vee-jays in 1984 and hosted his own syndicated TV show, "Smash Hits Top 10 Countdown," which was seen in over 100 markets, by about 13 people, from 1989 to 1993.  In 1985, Shannon went nationwide on over 200 stations with "The Rocking America Top 30 Countdown." To this day people don't know how he pulled that off. His one bedroom apartment is jammed with many awards- including his runner-up trophy in the Nathan's Hotdog Eating Contest. On the broadcast  side, first in 1988 and again from 1993 through 1997, he was named Billboard  Magazine's "Air Personality of the Year."  And in 1989 and 1994 through 1997, he was also honored as the "Program Director of the Year." Last year he was inducted into the National Association of Broadcaster's Radio Hall of Fame.  In a special survey by Radio and Records, his peers named him "The Most Influential Programmer of the Past 20 Years," and he's been enshrined in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
